What the AI Strategy Lab actually does

You type a strategy idea in plain English. TrendSpider's AI translates it into TS Script, runs a backtest, and returns a tearsheet with equity curve, drawdown, win rate, profit factor, and trade list. You can then deploy it as an alert or — on Advanced — as a live trading bot.

Example 1: Simple RSI mean reversion

Prompt: "Buy SPY when RSI(14) crosses above 30, exit at 8% profit or 4% stop."

Result: Backtest from 2010, 73 trades, 56% win rate, profit factor 1.42, max drawdown 9.1%. Reasonable baseline. Not a money printer.

Example 2: Anchored VWAP swing

Prompt: "Long signal when price reclaims the anchored VWAP from the most recent earnings date and RSI > 50."

Result: Smaller sample (12 trades), 67% win rate, profit factor 2.1. Encouraging on the right names.

Example 3: CANSLIM-style breakout

Prompt: "Buy on a 52-week high breakout with volume > 1.5x 50-day average, exit on 7% stop or 25% gain."

Result: Classic CANSLIM mechanics. 41 trades over 5 years, 49% win rate but 2.8 profit factor due to skewed winners.

Example 4: Inside-bar continuation

Prompt: "Buy on inside bar continuation after a 3-bar uptrend, exit at 1.5R."

Result: Highest-frequency strategy tested. 312 trades, 51% win, 1.18 profit factor. Marginal.

Example 5: Failed pattern

Prompt: "Buy when MACD looks bullish."

Result: AI asked for clarification — what does "looks bullish" mean? Crossover? Histogram positive? Above zero line? Useful UX, the AI doesn't pretend to read intent.

Example 6 & 7: Sector rotation, options-flow signals

Both worked. The platform handles fundamental triggers (earnings dates, sector relative strength) as well as pure price action.

How to get the most out of it

1. Be specific about exits. Always define stop, target and time-based exit.

2. Use realistic universe sizes. Backtesting on SPY produces different results than the Russell 2000.

3. Walk-forward test. TrendSpider supports out-of-sample validation. Use it.

4. Don't chase optimization. If you tune until win rate hits 80%, you've overfit.

Is it worth the upgrade?

The AI Strategy Lab is included on Elite. With SET25, that's $40.50/mo. If you'd otherwise pay a developer to build and backtest a strategy in TS Script, the platform pays for itself with a single useful idea per month.

Verdict: The AI Strategy Lab is the single biggest reason to choose TrendSpider over TradingView in 2026.
